Johannes Max Wilhelm Bay (b.1993) is a strategist and designer based in New Zealand, currently commissioning and consulting on projects through Phenomenon 1.

Phenomenon 1 is a humanist research and design advisory specialising in strategy for novel technologies. Grounded in deep, experiential studies we help clients devise equally novel models of production, distribution and consumption as well as corresponding sense- and meaning-making practices.

Previously he was Product Design Lead at 21e8 Ltd, researching and developing new form-factors for next-generation network infrastructure and interfaces. 

Johannes holds a BDes in Visual Communication Design from Toi Rauwhārangi Massey University and a MSc in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science.‍
